Tim and Terri
Scott Mclean
I’m going to jump around a bit here.
I’ve talked about the close relationships with my cousins Tim and Terri.
Tim had bought one of the first year of Toyota 4 wheel drive pickups. I think 1978 or 79. We went over to help his sister Terri and my friend Kurt move into their new house in Longview. On the way, we stopped for a meal at the Mayfield Cafe. Those Toyotas did not have a gentle suspension so when Tim hit a bump in the ditch going into the parking lot, it actually ejected the cassette tape from his player.
For you youngsters, look up cassettes.
Kurt’s parents were great people but dinner was made in more normal quantities then we were used to. Tim and I went out to get more food afterwards and found Longviews dragging spot. The Toyota got attention and one female actually spit French fries all over the road hollering at us.
The Toyota survived that trip and we gave it a real test.
Tim followed my old 47 Willys up the Divide Ridge trail. Not an easy run for the uninitiated. Tim’s ice chest tipped over and spilled. The end result was Pepsi that had grown warm and had all the paint worn off the cans. Yummy!
We headed down towards Louie Way Gap. There was a long snow bank in the road. I tried powering through and bogged down. We pulled my Jeep out after digging with hunks of bark.
Of course I tried it again! I made it after almost sliding off into a down hill pond.
The road ended less than a quarter mile later but we both made it. Stupid but you’d have to be a Jeeper or 4 wheeler to understand.
Tim and I had numerous adventures. My Aunt and Uncle claimed we were so linked that one could start a sentence and the other finish it.
More later.
