Sandwiches
Scott Mclean
When I’m having a bad nerve night, weird things go through my head both when awake and the smaller amount of time when I sleep.
I’ll state right now, not looking for sympathy. This is just Scott 2.0, the new me and I’ve just got to make the best of it. It’s just not an improved version other than a slight bit more tolerance for idiots. Not much, mind you!
The first odd thing through my head was a book my younger son loved reading at pre school level. Does one fish two fish red fish blue fish sound familiar?
The other was odd sandwiches different people ate.
Okay, there is a difference between people on whether mayonnaise or Miracle Whip is better. My family were Miracle Whip fans except for myself who finds both disgusting. Mustard all of the way!
I have a lot of odd food tastes. For instance I love raw carrots and tomatoes. Only like the cooked version in small amounts mixed in soup or such. Ketchup is only for French fries or a hamburger patty on a plate. Add bread to the equation and no ketchup.
I like a good French dip or reuben, but no thousand island dressing. Peanut butter, grape or berry jelly, and sharp cheddar is a favorite. Yes, I’ve been told I’m weird before.
My Uncle Duane enjoyed a sandwich made up of a hard fried egg, peanut butter, and mayonnaise. I don’t feel so weird now!
I went to school with a kid who brought bologna and grape jelly sandwiches for lunch.
Dad’s meal making skills were limited to a few sandwiches. He would put slices of spam or Vienna sausages on bread with mayonnaise. He would also put green onions or onion slices on buttered bread.
Mom actually always bought margarine, not butter. One of Mom’s favorite sandwiches was Peanut butter and dill pickles. Personally, I love dills but detest sweet or bread and butter pickles.
Steve would eat anything he found tasty between slices of bread. He was known to stack potato chips with pork and beans or cottage cheese between bread slices. Sometimes it was both!
Dad liked a piece of bread with butter and a bowl of tomato soup. Not a fan of tomato soup but will dip a piece of bread or a sandwich in other soups or beans.
Dad used to get meat at a big discount from H and H where he was a supervisor, in 5 or 10 pound boxes. We had blt’s quite often but here is another of my food oddities. I don’t want lettuce and tomato on my sandwich but they’re fine on the side.
I also don’t use any dressing on my salad, just the veggies.
Dad would sometimes buy a box of ribeye and we would quite often make steak sandwiches from it. Seeing the prices now that would be an expensive sandwich.
One more oddity from me. I stated that I hate mayonnaise so my tuna sandwiches had tuna and nothing else.
Dad would snack on green onions like they were candy.
I love munching on cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. One of Lilli’s favorite snacks is peanut butter and apple. Steve would snack on canned sardines which I find nasty.
Not as humorous of a story this time but just some comments on odd tastes of people I grew up with. Feel free to add your family or personal food choices.
Bye now!
