Bigfoot
Scott Mclean
Next Installment on my story.
When we moved to the house on Summitview and Pioneer it was quite a change. We went from sharing a room with a sibling to 5 bedrooms and 2 baths. Unfortunately, it also came with a lot more lawn to mow.
One of our favorite places was a group of huge old sage and greasewood on Cowiche Mountain. We worked very hard to find and catch horned toads. They were tricky to catch but once you had them they would ride around on your shirt for hours. I took one to 4th grade and got sent to talk to Mr. Zeutenhorst when a girl in my class realized it was a live lizard and not a toy.
I made new friends at Marcus Whitman and my brother Steve met a life long friend. He came home from first grade telling about a new friend whose Dad had shot Bigfoot from a helicopter. Irv’s tales grew from there.
At first it was just me but eventually Steve started working for the neighbors. We changed sprinklers and did other field work and felt wealthy at the time.
There was a box elder tree in the front lawn that still exists and is huge. It was custom made for climbing and we spent a lot of time in it.
Cowiche Creek had a dam where the north and south forks came together and we spent a lot of time there. A ramp was built and we would jump our bikes into the creek, drag them out, and do it again. The dam had a concrete base and timbers slanting down stream. This made an area behind the spillover that was hidden and relatively dry. Our neighbor boy never did figure out how we could dissappear.
I will go into further adventures and our first experience with the ghost in future tales.
See ya!
